The Hunt: The Hare - A Traditional Mead

Fair or not, it seems like a meadery is judged by the strength of their traditional mead.

It’s usually the first flavor everyone wants to try and if it’s not good, most people won’t bother trying your other flavors.

With this in mind, Bryce and I took our time to perfect our traditional mead. We experimented with different honeys and yeasts going back and forth and comparing our favorites over the course of several years.

Twenty-six batches later, we ended up with our flagship traditional mead, The Hunt: The Hare.

A traditional mead can be tricky. With no other flavors like fruit or spices, there is really nothing to hide any funky flavors behind.

The Hare is light and bright with notes of cardamon and lemon. It is semi-sweet leaning on the drier side.

But what about the name? What’s that about?

One thing about me is I love a plan! The Hare is the first in a planned trilogy of traditional meads. Keeping with the theme of our love of story telling, we named this mead like we would name a book.

Think of “The Hunt” as the title and “The Hare” as a subtitle. The name of the series, “The Hunt”, was very intentional. This alludes to our journey in creating our traditional mead. We were on the hunt for the best combination of ingrediants to create the best tradtional that we could. Our criteria was simple, this had to mead that we would be happy to drink ourselves.

Have you had a chance to try the Hare? Would you like to?
