  • Click here to see what stores and bars are currently carrying our mead. Or come see us in person at a local market. Check our “Find us” page for a schedule of events we will be vending at.

  • Mead is the oldest recorded form of alcoholic beverage. At just around 8,000 years old it is the predecessor to both wine and beer by a few thousand years. Mead is created from honey fermented in a process similar to beer, but like wine can range in flavor from dry to super-sweet.

  • The flavor of mead can vary widely depending on the type of mead and the ingredients used.

Traditional mead (honey, water, yeast) can be sweet or dry but should taste of honey with subtle additional tasting notes depending on the yeast used.

If you would like to try mead we always offer free samples at our physical location or at vending events.

You can find detailed flavor descriptions of our meads on our shop page. Or find even more detailed information including inspirations and a look at the process for select meads on our blog page.

  • We love this question!

The truth is mead is it's own unique flavor but depending on the style of mead it can be closer to either beer or wine.

At Fox and Raven Mead we carry two basic styles of mead: still and carbonated.

The still style can be more closely compared to a wine but with distinct honey characteristics while the carbonated style can be compared to a cider or beer.

While mead can be very sweet, our meads tend to lean on the dry to semi-sweet side.

Decide for yourself! We give free samples of most flavors at our market booth and our production facility. Click here to see where to find us.

  • Not at all. Mead can range from bone dry to super-sweet.

Sulfites may also be added after fermentation to help protect against oxidation ensuring no off flavors or off colors develop.
