“At Your Service Comandante”

Nice to mead you!

Our newest mead, “At Your Service Comandante” was not supposed to be released this year. We had this recipe ready to go but we figured it would be a while before we got to make it. But when Bryce casually mentioned that prickly pears were in season I was like “Why don’t we go ahead and make it?” And I’m so glad we did!

Have you ever had a prickly pear?

We used red prickly pears for this recipe which produced at a vibrant red-pink color in the final mead which is just breathtaking. One of the things we have enjoyed the most about this mead is introducing more people to this amazing flavor.

What’s in a name?

Sometimes the mead comes first and sometimes the name comes first. When we started developing this recipe I knew almost immediately I wanted to name this one after one of my childhood heroes, Zorro. This swashbuckling swordsman was one of my favorites right along Batman and Darkwing Duck. (Sensing a theme lol) I watched the black and white tv show every chance I got. It was full of action, adventure and (most importantly to me) sticking it to the man! I think this mead captures that rebellious spirit.

Note: “At Your Service Comandante is made with highly seasonal ingredients. Check back in the fall. We will definitely be restocking. Or sign up for our mailing list to be notified of mead releases and events.

At Your Service, Comandante!

Inspired by our favorite masked swordsman, At Your Service Comandante is a bright semi-sweet carbonated prickly pear mead. Created with delicious golden Texas wildflower honey combined with succulent native prickly pears this mead is as smooth as the man himself.

Prickly Pears

The prickly pears came in various stages of readiness. We spent about a week off and on sorting and preparing the fruit as it ripened.

Did you know?

Zorro is the Spanish word for fox. ^.^ Totally on brand!
